Controversial Chat Line Adverts Removed

Some of you may have noticed over the past couple of issues some adverts of a more ‘adult nature’ for certain telephone chatlines appearing in this publication. A fact of life I’m afraid is that ALL magazines need advertising to survive and this was one avenue that was explored for Scootering.
However I am happy to inform those readers that didn’t like such adverts appearing in a scooter magazine that I have been assured by one of the Mortons directors that such adverts have been stopped and will not appear again in Scootering. This will begin with the forthcoming January 2010/ issue 283 of Scootering Magazine (published in the UK on 24 December 2009).

Potholes

Anyone else noticed that potholes seem to be on the increase lately? Whether they’re breeding beyond control or councils simply don’t have the budget to repair them, I’m not sure. The AA however want something done about it as feedback from their driving school instructors across the UK reveals that many are changing lesson routes and teaching specific driving techniques to deal with crumbling roads.

AA President Edmund King says: “The fabric of our local roads is a major cause for concern, with surfaces crumbling and drivers at risk of damage to their vehicles and even themselves. Ultimately we all pay more through patching and mending, and then paying out compensation rather than fixing the underlying poor condition of many of our roads.

The AA is also asking drivers and riders to help identify Britain's worst potholes by taking part in the online discussion at www.theaa.com/zone.

Our advice is to look ahead and leave enough space between you and the car in front so you can see the quality of the road surface and plan accordingly for any potential hazards. While highways authorities cannot be held responsible for all their roads 24/7, if they fail to act when a pothole (or other highway defect) is reported they may be held liable.

So if you see a dangerous pothole, especially if directly in line with the path of your scooter or the road, then report it. Then get a friend to report it too a short while later, then the council or highways agency are more likely to act upon it.

I HAVE DONE THIS TWICE THIS WEEK AND BOTH TIMES I HAD A POSITIVE RESPONSE, INFACT ON BOTH OCCASIONS THEY NEW A FREIND THAT WAS PURCHASING A VESPA OR LAMBRETTA OVER THE NEXT WEEK ! You may or may not be aware that Since Monday 14th September 2009, I (Huxley) have been revamping, updating and generally making the website an interesting and informative place to check out ! I'am pleased to inform you that the website stats since this has happened has increased significantly which is a possitive step in the right direction to expanding the membership and also the notoriety of the club. On Sept 14th 09, the website hits count since site had started some 5 or 6 month's prior was 1136 and there was 9 members of the forum. Today January 19th 2010, 14.30 PM, there has been  20,008 hits on the website and counting, with 24 members ( inc site owner ) now registered on the forum ! This is a great turn around and makes all our efforts worth while. Keep spreading the word !

Yes there it is, sitting in middle England, at a place called nowhere and you've guessed it, going nowhere ! The slug at the back with No' 9 on the mudguard, we can only presume this mean's 9th in the que for fixing !  

The difference between the pic's, well youv'e guessed right again, no difference whatsoever ! Yes sadly it's still got the same broken engine, but hay heath, it won't be long before you can show us all how to blow it up all over again !........TS1...............TS1....................TS1..................

 By it's very definition you, Tin Soldiers Scooter Club, are one in every sense of the word. On Friday 06th NOV, i HUXLEY, looked at the weather for the weekend and thought to myself Saturday was looking promising for a rideout and Sunday is gonna piss down ! (yet to be proven at time of writing this, Sat eve.) So i put out the word, short notice, sending 21 emails and 16 text messages, i had two replys ! Nether the less i went to our meeting place at 11.10am in glorious sunshine and waited with hope. 11.30am came and it was just me, myself and i. I pondered and thought i will just go home, then i had the good sense to say f**k it, i will go and represent the BASC and get to know some other people with the same interests as myself. I rode 28 miles on my own accross country, at a nice 50mph it was great. 12.30 ish i met up with the TSSC at Bletchly town center, they were there as they said they would be, some 20 scoots and scooterists. I was instantly recognised by them with my stars on the lid. I introduced myself and was made very welcome by all. 1.30pm came and like a military operation we set of for a rideout to Leighton Buzzard town center some 12 - 15 miles away to a clothing shop called Wild Wood. The ride there was precision, at no point did the pack separate with two outriders blocking of junctions and turns so we could all stay together, brilliant, the public would stop, stare and admire the scooters and two stroke smoke passing them by. We all parked along the shop front and this instantly gathered attension from most of the passing public, inc the Town Cryer ! Wild Wood is a superb clothing shop for the smart scooterist/mod and i purchased 1 item at a cost of £90 and very nice too ! After and hour browsing, talking and drinking warm coffee and being shat on the back by a pigeon while loading my new goods onto the rear rack of my trusty steed, we set off again to the Three Locks a beautifull pub on an old canal. A pint later and more chatting and picture taking i set of home still in glorious sunshine, along the twisties. On the way home i thought to myself i was glad i went, i could of so easily just gone home when i realised it was only me going to go, but determind in character as i'am i went, a round trip of 80 miles approx, and it was a great day !
