Well i will kick it off then by reflecting on my 2009 scootering year...........I managed to attend a few rally's last year and on reflection if there was a breakdown it was a lambretta ! lo
1st....... VMSC Coventry and not long into our journey, Sparky's gear cable broke. Good job i had my Vespa handy for him to nip home on and grab a replacement. Later on when leaving the show, Sparky again had a fault, this time fuel leaking from the HOOVER like carb. And finally on the way home Jamie's clutch broke on his Lambretta ! 2nd...... Abscond to the Pond was a great day with no problems on route, or at the event. Sadly though on the way home, forgive me as i cannot remember the guys name but a lambretta travelling with us broke down two or three times. A fault with the fuel tap i belive ! 3rd....... Isle of Wight well you have probably heard, on the way home was great fun for heath with his compressionless GP200 Lambretta !.....Again good job my Vespa was about for him to ride home on. LOL
Conclusion : Own a Lambretta if you have deep pockets, and like the fraise two steps forward and one step back ! ...................Or you could buy a Vespa instead of borrowing mine.......hehehehehe.........lol..............xxx

my tuppence worth is THAT every thing mechanical wears and there fore regular servicing should help But things go wrong along the way! How can you be held responsible for a snapped cable?? Thing is most things we buy now are soo cheaply made its only a matter of time before they go wrong. Even my auto seized up last year!! Boohooo

Neil broke down after a club meet Paul Kas paint gave him a life home, Dave broke down 3 mile down the road from me on way home from Isle of wight & Heath on the same bit of road, also Chubbs broke down on way home from Bedford flywheel came off & he also crashed on way back from night out doing cross country short cut, Jamie broke down as well on outskirts of Rushden, Donnie Paul broke down on way to Abscond to the pond corby service station, Andy Lashers wife broke down clutch collapsed, John the plaster run out of petrol does that count? & all these lambrettas, but we still love em
Forgot Andy Coleman broke down on his VESPA wires broke on the coil or that area. Andy Lashers VESPA played up on way home from Bedford, Dean Bonner had puncher on his VESPA on way to Islip one night from Rushden,
Any other memories of break downs?
Guess when doing all these miles someone gotta break down or why would we need the AA or Rac, thats what we pay them for or they would be out of a job.

Looking at the pics of ya engine tho Dnnis i think you just caught it before things were gonna start to go wrong. leaking head and worn rings?? Couldve been nasty Holed piston or snapped rings Both of which would mean a complete engine strip.

i would go with chances are the lamby is 40 year old technology and mostly indian at that. vespas are 25 year old technology in the main p range, and starting to become indian from ity tech. and the modern auto well most like to ride itey machines. and as they ware down italjets runners ect, will mostly be using second hand parts but at least the 4t engines will not be getting banned unlike a lot of the 2t's are being all over europe, and indeed so i was told, even india is stopping 2t production so perhaps the question should be, what is the best motor too tow these scooters, and what wheel base would you recommend i very much want my runner engined lamby finish off. oh dennis another wiring job. LOL
